My father passed away on the 28th November 2007 in St Luke’s Hospital. He and his family received the blessings of the extraordinary care of everyone working in St Luke’s. The tranquility and gentle peace of the hospital itself was a major comfort to him and to all of us in his last weeks.
WE MUST SAVE WHAT IS GOOD ABOUT OUR EXISTING HEALTH CARE! ST LUKE’S IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF WHAT WE HAVE GOT RIGHT SO FAR. IT IS INSANE TO SELL THIS BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO DEVELOPERS!
I think this would be an awful decision to make for such a great facility to be moved would be inappropriate to make room for what?!!! development!! the whole health system is becoming a joke! to even consider this move is unbelieveable, Mary Harney has alot to answer for!
KEEP ST LUKES, and REVIEW THE WHOLE HEALTH SYSTEM!!!
it is shocking to think that our minister for health wants to build houses where st lukes hospital is. It is terrible news for the patients, relatives and staff of the hospital….
We must keep it open…..
My mother received wonderful care at the St Lukes facility, there is no rationale to closing this hospital other than acquiring the valuable land it sits on. If Lukes is moved to James St it will lose all the qualities that patients over the years valued greatly – care and compassion in peaceful surroundings – as it is swallowed up into another giant monstrosity of a hospital…as what happened with Tallaght hospital. If something is not broke don’t fix it.
I was a patient in St. Luke’s hospital. I can not speak highly enough about the staff and facilities and the care I received in St. Luke’s. Why does the Government not listen to it’s people? Why are they messing about with something that works? Why are they closing one of the few facilities in our health services that isn’t in a mess and moving it to an over already over-crowded facility. – Money, that’s why. Leave St. Luke’s hospital alone!
My father also passed away at St Lukes and the only consolation at the time was the extraordinary care he received from Staff. This decision is another reminder (as if we needed one) of the cruel two tier health system in this country and an effort to privitise and profiteer from basic human needs.
Once again our goverment are to be congradulated “NOT”.
What bothers me is all the scandal that is going on with the cancer health care system in this country and how do thye try to resolve it by closing down a vital hospital like st Lukes. it beggers believe it really does.
Save this great hospital. My dad My aunty and now my sister are and did attend st Lukes. It is a great place and the staff are brilliant and do a great job.
Keep up the fight i am behind you guys all the way.
ive just been at st lukes hospital for 7 weeks recieving treatment for cervical cancer ……to shut st lukes to me would be like signing some ones death cert ,the treament is the best that there is ,the staff are amazing, to have cancer is bad enough , but some how st lukes made it a lot easier to deal with mentaly and physically……..shame on the goverment ,money matters more than people ……id hate for any of them to get cancer and not have st lukes there to look after them !KEEP ST LUKES OPEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My grandmother was looked after in great care at St. Lukes until she died there and my mother attended there as breast cancer patient but has since passed on. Please don’t let this hospital close.
The quality of care and support received by my Dad at this hospital was second to none. This is a rare example of the health service in Ireland working, don’t let it be closed down.
My mum died in August 2007 after losing her third battle with cancer. During her last few years we got to experience 7+ hospitals in Dublin, Wexford and Waterford. St Lukes (care, facilities, location) showed us what hospitals should be like – providing excellent care of patients and relatives in beautiful surroundings. My mum was in St Lukes for almost 2 months receiving radium treatment after a brain tumour operation – it was 100% successful, we got another year with our mother as a result –Thank You St Lukes!
Please do not close this wonderful facility!
Shame on anyone who would consider closing St. Lukes.
As my brother says above, our mother received care in St Lukes like she received in none of the other hospitals she unfortunately had to spend time in during her various cancer treatments. The hospital is bright and clean and our Mum even went back to give a box of chocolates to the fantastic staff there. While we all know that living with cancer is no joke -St. Lukes is known to be a ray of sunshine to so many peoples lives through very sick and sad times.
It would be a crying shame and an appaling statement by the Irish Health Authorities if St. Lukes closes down. Mary Harney – go and fix something in the health system that isn’t working. God knows you have already got plenty of scope there.
Dad was treated wtih such kindness and gentleness at St. Lukes, at the same time it was such a happy, cheerful and bright place so different from any other place on earth! We cannot let St. Lukes close its so needed we must fight this all the way. If St. Lukes is closed where will our people go into a horrible unit somewhere thats run by our crap health service!! God help us all if this happens!
my pops was treated for cancer in st lukes and all the staff were great it was a tough time and having that great support was great for him and the family thank you st lukes
DO NOT CLOSE such a great hospital. They did a terrific job looking after my Mum a year ago. It would be an absolute scandal of the highest proportions should this place not remain open.
I received really efficient treatment and my family
- all five of us – totally support keeping St. Lukes
open. The staff, the care, the tranquility and
friendliness of the Hospital completely outrank Vincents and Tallaght.

This is an appalling decision. Another case of Bureaucracy ruling against the wishes of the people. Good luck in your fight.

How the hell is this country doing so well economically?!
This is a FARCE.
Keep St. Luke’s open.

It would be terrible to close such a beautiful and peaceful hospital to transfer patients to hospitals which are already over crowded.
Keep St Lukes Open!! Good luck!

I feel that it is a disgrace that they are going to close St. Luke’s. It would not be fair to the patients who use it.
Keep St. Luke’s open.

The Lisbon Treaty didn’t truly show how far out of touch the government is with the people who elected them. This idiotic fiasco does.
The HSE “management” (I use the term loosely) should be charged with manslaughter. €230million spent on PPARS and they’re closing hospitals? Morons.
