St Luke’s Campaign supports Health march

This Saturday supporters of the St Luke’s Hospital Campaign Dublin will march with the Dublin Council of Trade Union’s Health March from Parnell Square.

The Save St Luke’s Campaign is demanding that the 2005 Government reverses its decision to move cancer patients from St Luke’s, which they claim is an ‘ existing centre of excellence’ to the crowded campus at St James’.

Currently the national radiotherapy centre, St Luke’s treats patients from all over Ireland. It has a unique atmosphere and ethos which supporters say cannot be replicated elsewhere.

It makes no sense so you have to ask if the decision was more to do with medical politics, and the valuable site on which St Luke’s stands. Developers are eyeing up that valuable land in Rathgar.’

The Campaign is supporting the march as way of sending a very clear signal to Minister Harney that she has to listen to patient’s groups and campaigns like our own. These demonstrations will continue until we have a decent public health service and they expand St Luke’s Hospital on the existing site and not close it.
